Neutrality of Circumstances
Dec 01, 2022As Byron Katie would say,
“Circumstances are reality, and when you argue with reality, you lose, but only 100% of the time.”
Circumstances do not cause us pain, but rather, it’s our thoughts about them. No matter how horrific the event, the only thing that ever causes us emotional pain is our story (thoughts) about it.
So our brain is what makes circumstances negative and our body is where this is reflected (negative emotions).
The most common ones are:
● Discomfort ● Deprivation ● Urges ● Victimization ● Overwhelm ● Dissatisfaction ● Failure
● Insecurity ● Rage ● Anxiety.
Now, what are the things you have decided are negative? Think about it. Why do you think they’re negative? Who told you they were? In the documentary on Scientology, it is fascinating to see how we learn what to believe when we are raised in a certain way.
When there is widespread agreement, we tend to think that things are true. What are some of our collective beliefs that are negative? We choose to believe things that make us feel awful. On purpose. Have you thought about this?
Then, ask yourself which ones are conscious and deliberate, and which ones do you want to change?
Let's start with any negative observations we have about ourselves that feel true but aren't serving us and are completely optional. “I'm not good enough.” This is where most of us can start. “I should be happier.” “I should be better.”
